Renovation involves numerous activities that include demolition, tear out and rebuilding. For Homes built before 1978
the EPA has speciific Lead Based Paint work practices and rules in place.
To Protect against the risk, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe-practices and other actions aimed at
preventing Lead Poisoning. Under the rule contractors performing renovation, repairs and painting projects that
disturb lead based paint in homes, child care facilities and scholls built before 1978 must be certified and must follow
specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
Contractors must use lead-safe work practices and fellow three simple procedures:
1. Contain the work area.
2. Minimize the Dust
3. Clean up thoroughly
NOTE: All Contractors proforming work in homes built before 1978 must be certified (Lead-Safe Certified).
